Full Moon in Aries
A fiery full Moon arrives in initiator Aries on Saturday September 26th at 17.48 BST. There’s plenty of hot air to be whipped up and little earth to anchor the consequences. As best you can, let it blow through you, over you, around you rather than inflame you.
This is the Harvest Moon, the full Moon closest to the equinox, the one our ancestors honoured, bringing in the last of the grain by its light long after the sun had set. The cosmic joke for 2026 is this harvest Moon has not a single planet in Earth. Fire and Air carry the chart, and the element of the field, the barn, the bread and the body is left empty. The crops are in, but nobody is quite sure who’s going to carry them home.
The equinox slipped past in the small hours of Wednesday, 1.06am on the 23rd, that still point when day and night weigh the same. From here the dark gains ground on the light every evening until December, in the Northern hemisphere. Whatever you have been running on through the long, bright months, you will feel the shift in your body. The instinct to go inward, to rest, to ask what any of it is for? This is melancholic autumn doing its work on you. Most of us arrive at this turning point on the red warning light. Something’s gotta give, let it be the relentless pace rather than your health.
SHAMANIC JOURNEY TO THE ARIES HARVEST MOON
The kite and its tail
Two weeks ago, at the Virgo new Moon, Mercury held the corner of a grand trine in air. Now the Sun has taken its place. The Sun in Libra trines Uranus in Gemini, Uranus trines Pluto in Aquarius, and Pluto trines back to the Sun, every side within two degrees. One smooth unbroken loop of thought, signal and mental pressure.
Opposite the Sun sits the full Moon itself, fused to Neptune within a degree, and that single line turns the triangle into a kite. Every trine in the pattern pours its energy down the tail and into Aries. Air feeding fire. You know what happens when you blow on embers. Ideas that have been circling for months suddenly want people, dates, action. The talk wants to become something, it wants to land somewhere. The risk is that the wind fans the flames faster than anyone can decide where the fire should go, especially with no Earth in sight.
This is the heart of the Moon. The kite gives you lift, fluency and a surprising sense of rightness, a feeling of being carried by something larger. Uranus and Pluto have been trining each other all year, the long slow music of revolution meeting transformation, and now the Sun and Moon step into that music, lending it a personal voice. You may hear, very clearly, what you want next. What you won’t find yet is the exact container for it.
A dream with a spine
The Moon sits within a degree of Neptune, retrograde at the very front door of Aries, with Saturn a few degrees further along and closing. These two made their great conjunction at the first degree of Aries in February, the meeting of dreamer and builder that opened a thirty-six-year cycle. This Harvest Moon revisits that original scene.
Neptune in Aries is inspiration with its sleeves rolled up, the vision that wants to be enacted rather than contemplated. Saturn in Aries is the discipline of the first step, the unglamorous courage of beginning and then beginning again the next morning. Lit up by the full Moon, the question between them becomes very personal. Which of your dreams are you actually prepared to work for? And which are you purely in love with? There is a difference between a calling and a fantasy, and Saturn, retrograde and patient, will show you which is which by what you are willing to do on a cold, wet Tuesday.
Neptune in Aries has a shadow worth naming on an Aries-Libra axis, of war and peace. Neptune can glamourise the fight, make a crusade feel holy, dress aggression up as destiny. Collectively we are watching that happen in real time. Personally, notice where you feel inflamed rather than committed. The fire that burns clean is quiet. The fire that needs an audience usually isn’t yours to fight.
The wounded warrior on the last degree
Chiron is retrograde on the twenty-ninth degree of Aries, the final breath of a sign it has been working through since 2018, and it sits in exact square to Mars on the last degree of Cancer. Two planets at the crisis degree of their signs, both reaching the finishing line a little frayed.
Chiron in Aries has spent eight years pressing on the wound of self-assertion, the places where we learnt it wasn’t safe to want, to be first, to take up room. Mars in Cancer is the warrior guarding the home, fighting for family, ancestry, the soft interior. The square between them is sore. Old hurt around defending yourself, or failing to, or defending others at your own expense, may rise without warning this weekend. Treat it with the tenderness you’d give a wounded animal. Chiron is making its last pass over this ground, and the wound is asking to be witnessed one final time before it leaves.
Mars, clinging to the final degree of Cancer, reaches the Moon and Neptune by an out-of-sign trine, water feeling its way towards fire across the border. It softens the edges. There is real feeling underneath the flames, and the trine becomes a true fire trine the moment Mars crosses over. And Mars leaves Cancer for Leo at 3.49am on Monday 28th, walking straight onto the stage and immediately into the spotlight. From Leo it heads for an exact opposition with Pluto on Saturday October 3rd, at the same third degree where this full Moon falls. Mercury in Libra is already squaring Mars, so words may run sharper than intended this week. Say the real thing, but say it once, and say it kindly.
Venus goes underground
Venus, ruler of Libra, is in Scorpio where she is in detriment, working twice as hard to get half the ease. She is just separating from a square to Pluto, if the last fortnight dragged something jealous, possessive or long buried into your relationships, you are not imagining it.
Venus in Scorpio doesn’t tolerate lukewarm. She wants the whole of what and who you love, including the parts you’d rather keep in the dark. She can smell insincerity a mile off. She can also, when frightened or insecure, see betrayal where there is none, or read a hidden meaning into a perfectly innocent text. Use this transit to get honest about your defences. What are you guarding? Who taught you to guard it? And does it still need guarding?
On October 3rd, the same day Mars opposes Pluto, Venus stations retrograde at 8° Scorpio, A loaded beginning to a retrograde. She dips back into Libra on October 25th, turns direct on November 14th, and re-enters Scorpio on December 4th, staying until January 7th, 2027. Think of it as Inanna’s descent: every gate asks for something to be surrendered, and you come back up knowing yourself better than when you went down. Old loves may resurface. Creative work you abandoned may call you back. Neglected parts of yourself may ask to be let in. Don’t rush any of it. Leave new commitments until Venus turns. Use the retrograde to find out whether your existing ones stand up to scrutiny.
Mercury follows Venus into Scorpio on September 30th and stations retrograde there on October 24th, direct on November 13th. By late October both planets of relating are walking backwards through the underworld together. Back up your files, read the small print twice, and leave room in your diary for the conversation that turns out to be an entirely different conversation from the one planned.
Two lovers on a secluded path
The Sabian symbol for this Moon is ‘two lovers strolling through a secluded walk’. No crowd, no audience, no hurry. Just two people and a path under the trees, with nowhere they need to be.
On a Moon this fiery, the image is startlingly relaxed. Aries is supposed to be the charge, the battle cry, the first one through the door. Here it is, walking slowly, hand in hand, out of sight. It might be a lover. It might be a friend you never have enough time for. It might be the part of yourself that only surfaces when nobody is asking anything of you, the one you keep promising a long walk and never quite get round to. Or it might be the ache of the empty place beside you, wondering where the other is.
Across the sky, the Sun’s symbol is ‘a group around a campfire’. The whole axis holds a question: the two, or the circle? Solitude, or belonging? Libra warms itself among others. Aries slips away down the path. You need both. This Moon asks you to be honest about which one you’ve been starving. If you’re always at the fire, go for the walk. If you’ve been walking alone for too long, come and warm yourself, there’s room.
Where this leaves you
Jupiter in Leo trines Saturn in Aries, the one steadying hand in a chart made of wind and flame. Fire supporting fire, generosity supporting discipline. Whatever you actually commit to under this Moon has backing.
You can’t do everything, so choose carefully. With the dark half of the year beginning and Venus about to go underground, this is the moment to replenish the tank, not drain it. Gather the people who genuinely have your back. Ask for the help you usually wait to be offered. Take the finishing line of the year seriously. The last quarter of 2026 is going to ask a great deal from all of us, and running on empty isn’t going to cut it.
Since there is no Earth, bring your own. Put your feet on the ground. Cook something slow. Put your hands in soil. Eat the harvest that is actually in front of you rather than the one you are planning. Put something earthy back into every day this week: bare feet, bread, a garden, a stone in your pocket. When you feel the heat rise in conversation, pause for one full breath before you answer. Mercury square Mars rewards the second draft.
Wishing you all infinite full moon love and blessings.
